Janine and I are lounging poolside under a row of giant umbrellas, while Annie and Helen are splashing water on the other side of the pool. It's the first time that we've been here since Judy moved away. Usually she would arrange our weekends here, but this time I did it on my own. I miss Judy. Not only for her friendship and the weekend outings here or at the beach, but also because she kept Susan in check.
As soon as Judy departed, or maybe even a little before then, Susan started reverting back to her old ways. Now she's lost in the same mire that she was in when we first met and it's very disheartening. Obviously, she isn't here with us. I thought of calling her up and inviting her, but I didn't know what to say. Besides, I didn't want to invite her here and then have her ruin our weekend like she did several weeks ago. That's not to say that I don't miss her.
We slept late into the morning and spent the afternoon lying naked in the sun. I missed not waking up to Susan and her bowl of cereal. The way she would stare at me and taunt me with spoonfuls of the stuff until I got up off my butt and joined her. It's the small moments like that. Those are the moments that made our weekends together complete. Those are the moments that I miss the most.
