I hate to say it, but I think my memory is giving way to senility. I've forgotten the name of the elderly couple who used to live next door to us when I was a child. They were a nice couple. The woman would always have something delicious for me to eat and her husband was always eager to show me his latest invention. He was known as the "necktie" man. He had a collection of over 170 neckties from all around the world. Impressive, huh?

Not as impressive as the massive assortment of collectible plates that adorned their kitchen and living room walls. They would buy the plates at gift shops while on vacation. Each plate signified a particular city or destination spot that they had been to, while on vacation. They had over 240 plates.

They collected a lot of stuff, but the collection that I loved the most, was the woman's collection of dolls. She kept them up in the attic, but whenever I came over, she would let me go up and play with them. I had so much fun up there, playing "dress up" with woman's old clothes and then playing "tea" or "house" with the dolls.

There was a span of time, I think it was a month, when I couldn't go up there, because the woman had suffered a minor stroke. When she had recovered enough to walk, she let me up there and I freaked. She hadn't been able to dust or clean and the attic was overrun by cobwebs. I became entangled in the webs and I freaked out.

I was reminded of the woman's attic yesterday, when I went into Susan's closet for some pillows and became entangled in a thick forest of webs.

Oh the horror!
