While we were in Maui, we met a giant blonde Hawaiian lesbian in a cowboy hat. Her name was Mary and she was handing out bumper stickers with the following message. We thought it was funny. "Make love. Not war. Lick bush in 04."Maui was absolutely beautiful. We stayed at the northwest end of the island in Kapalua Bay. It was nice there and the beaches were fairly secluded and quiet. In the mornings, we would either go out walking on the beach or if we were lazy, we would just take our coffee and cozy up on the patio. Our view was spectacular. At the end of the day, we would go out there with a bottle of wine and spend the night talking, while we gazed at the stars. We did a lot of stuff our first week there, but that soon tapered off and we spent the rest our time lounging on the beach or swimming in the warm waters. One of the things that we did was parasailing. I had never done that before and it was literally a breathtaking experience. We did a lot of snorkeling and diving too. We saw dolphins and sharks and all sorts of ocean life, but we spent most of our time looking at the beautiful coral and swimming with the fishies. At one point, Janine and I were totally surrounded by swirling schools of fish. It may sound silly, but at that moment, we felt as if we were at one with the ocean. You had to be there. We also went touring around the island. We drove through the Hana rain forest and I can't begin to describe the immense beauty of the place. It reminded me of the dream I had of Heidi. It was lush, wet and incredible. Then there were the rainbows. They were all over the place. Rich vibrant colors that overwhelmed us. We also made our way to the black sand beach and scooped up a handful of the multicolored volcanic pebbles as a memento of our time there. We stayed in Maui for about 2 weeks and then we came back and spent the last week at the summer house. I think that's when we got off track. This last week was supposed to be our transition week. We were supposed to use this week to get ourselves adjusted for our return to work, but that's not what happened. Instead, we spent most of the time in bed or on the sofa reading or watching TV. We threw caution to the wind and stuffed ourselves with pasta and cheesecake and all sorts of decadent stuff. We sank to new depths of laziness. It was so cool. Yeah, but we're feeling the effects of it now. Today was another horrible day. I almost took a cold shower at work, because that's how sleepy I was. I hope Janine had a better day than me. She was feeling it as bad as I was yesterday. Oh well, as they say, you only live once. Might as well make it worthwhile.
