I'm in bed and she's asleep next to me. Her lips are so cute and pouty. I want to kiss them, but I don't want to wake her. We had fun this weekend. Most of it was spent in bed, but there were moments in the shower or out on the kitchen floor that were just as special. It's been the best weekend that we've had in months and it happened just in the nick of time. I think I was on the verge of going nuts.

I guess I should start by explaining that Eva never left us. On the day that they were to depart, I pressured Amy into calling her mom. I wanted to talk to the woman and make sure that she would be waiting for the girls when they arrived. Amy called her up and they talked, but it didn't sound good on this end of the line. It sounded like Amy hadn't arranged anything at all. She was sobbing up a storm by the time she handed me the phone. I pretty much knew what her mom was going to say because I would have said the same thing if I received a call like that.

Eva was devastated. Amy had convinced her that she would have a place to stay and she bought into it, but all of that went up in smoke with that phone call. She stayed behind with Annie, while Janine and I drove Amy to the airport. On our way back to Annie's, we found Eva wandering down the street, a few blocks away from Annie's apartment. She was a wreck. She was crying her eyes out and it took us nearly an hour, before we convinced her to come back with us.

We had hoped for something like this. Janine and I had been planning for it ever since Eva departed last January. We felt bad that we weren't able to do anything for her, so we kept our eyes open, hoping she would come back if things didn't work out. All possible solutions were kept open and that included the one about having her move in with us. It was at the bottom of the list and we didn't seriously consider it until we came back from vacation last September.

So about a week after we came back from Maui, we decided to give it a shot and started preparations. We were realistic about what needed to be done. We thought about safety and theft, so we moved everything of significant value into our bedroom and replaced the standard door lock with a keyed lock. Then we cleared out the maze in the storage room and we moved all expensive non-essential items over to our parent's homes for storage. It was something that we had planned to do a month after Janine had moved in, way back in 2003, but we kept putting it off because it was such a huge task.

After all of this was done, our enthusiasm sank because in the back of our minds, I guess we really didn't expect to find Eva. But then we got that call from Annie and it was like a miracle. Everything seemed perfect that first week. We brought her home and she loved the place. She happily slept on a sleeping bag in her very own bedroom, but the next week proved to be taxing. We went shopping for clothes and bedroom furniture...

I have to stop because my baby has awoken and she wants to cuddle. I'll finish this up later.
