The summer when I was five years old, my parents went crazy and bought cases and cases of Vermont Chicken Vegetable soup. They bought it at a place called the "Canned Foods" warehouse. At $6 dollars a case, it was a deal that they couldn't pass up. The reason it was so cheap was because it was labeled "factory seconds" and not many people were comfortable with buying factory second food items. Factory second items were items that did not meet the criteria of the original product.
As for our soup, the reason it was stamped "Factory Seconds" was because it didn't have any green beans. The ingredient label stated that the soup was supposed to contain green beans, but someone at the factory messed up and none of our cans had green beans. That was fine with me. I hated green beans.
I'm not sure what happened to the "Canned Foods" warehouse. I think it might have merged into the "Grocery Outlet" chain. I love shopping at Grocery Outlet. There's always something new there and most everything is discounted. Especially the cheese. Here are a couple of examples of what we got today. I compared the prices that we paid to the prices found at Albertsons. It's quite a difference:
8oz. Harvarti cheese with dill
$1.89 ea - Grocery Outlet
$4.99 ea - Albertsons
8oz. Sliced Pepperjack cheese singles
$0.99 ea - Grocery Outlet
$3.49 ea - Albertsons
16oz. Block of Mild Cheddar cheese
$1.99 ea - Grocery Outlet
$4.99 ea - Albertsons
4 pack of Nestle Drumstick Ice Cream cones
$1.49 ea - Grocery Outlet
$3.99 ea - Albertsons
18oz. Nestle Ultimates Cookie Dough

$3.89 ea - Albertsons
